CITY OF ASYLUM/PITTSBURGH (COA/P) provides sanctuary to writers exiled under threat of death, imprisonment, or persecution in their native countries. COA/P enables writers to continue to write while transitioning to a potentially permanent exile by providing housing, medical benefits, and a living stipend, as well as help in securing translations and publishers and long-term stability independent of COA/P. COA/P also educates the public on issues relating to freedom of creative expression and multi-cultural collaboration, and promotes dialogue on the role and responsibilities of a City and its citizens.
