Steel Valley Trail Council
Our Mission is to assure quality construction and long-term stewardship of the Steel Valley Trail: a community driven, environmentally sensitive bicycle and pedestrian trail, accessible to people of all ages and all abilities, providing vital linkage through the Monongahela Valley near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The planned trail network will connect the communities of Clairton, Glassport, McKeesport, Duquesne, West Mifflin, Whitaker, Munhall, Homestead, West Homestead, Pittsburgh, Swissvale, and Rankin. The approximately nineteen-mile Steel Valley Trail (SVT), part of the Allegheny Trail Alliance, will connect the Three Rivers Heritage Trail, the Montour Trail, and the Nine Mile Run Trail, all to the Youghiogheny River Trail. It is a critical link in the system of trails to connect Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C. The Trail will pass through some of the region’s and the nation’s most interesting history, from the exploits of George Washington to the heart of the Industrial Revolution. The abundant history along the SVT will be interpreted with a visitor’s center, brochures, signage, and guides.
