Fundraiser Story

At the Thelma Lovette Y, I have the opportunity to grow our Active At Any Age program and support the Macedonia Face senior center with a variety of fitness classes. I enjoy having conversations with members about nutrition and healthy lifestyle habits and providing personal training to a diverse clientele!

Our branch provides a safe space for families to run and walk our indoor track, play basketball, learn to swim, and to participate in a variety of classes and programs. So, what are our critical needs?

Our community mission goes beyond the gym! My colleagues work hard to provide Summer Camp and Afterschool programs at the Miller School, to distribute essential meats, vegetables and fruits to food insecure residents of Hazelwood, and free tax preparation services to support the financial security of our Hill District neighbors.

Your donation will directly help us support these vulnerable populations and to offer membership scholarships to families who otherwise would not have access to Y services and programs.  20% of our members rely on financial assistance to use our facility, totaling over $56,000 annually.

Our members enjoy coming to our Y because:

-They feel better after exercising and taking our classes!

-They like being part of a racially diverse community!

-We have the equipment that their doctors recommend they use!

-Their kids can learn to swim, practice sports and learn new fitness habits!

-They can mentally recharge and make new friends!

Will you help us keep building these relationships and lifting up ALL of our Pittsburgh community?

About the Organization

The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh works side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. We know that lasting personal and social change comes about when we all work together. That's why, at the Y, strengthening the community is our cause.
