We are featuring The Greater Pittsburgh Infant Formula Bank service and our mobile infant feeding unit to participate in the 2024 Critical Needs Alert Day.
Through or baby division, we manage the Greater Pittsburgh Infant Formula Bank and provide free community baby showers, critical baby care items, and resource support for over 4,000 BABIES IN THE BURGH.
June 2024 marked the second anniversary of the launch of the Greater Pittsburgh Infant Formula Bank, the region's first and only public formula bank. The public formula bank network is designed to be a bridge-based support service for families struggling financially or needing to find a formula to feed their babies.
With seven locations, the formula bank focuses on F.E.E.D. (formula, education, engagement, and distribution) and has processed over 6,000 referrals for formula support and fed 3,000 unique babies in our region.
With support from stakeholders, the Greater Pittsburgh Infant Formula Bank was created in response to the infant formula recall, supply chain challenges, policy inequities, inflation, and need. The Greater Pittsburgh Infant Formula Bank serves not just families who are unable to afford this basic need but also families with pre-term babies and babies with complex medical conditions who are unable to find the formula.
In August 2024, we will launch The Babies in the Burgh Mobile Unit, bringing infant formula, infant feeding education, lactation support, and critical baby care items to communities facing transportation and food deserts. This launch will allow for more access and equitable support.
