Focus On Renewal Sto-Rox Neighborhood Corporation (FOR) was founded in 1969 by community activists. FOR is an anchor institution and pillar agency in the western communities of Allegheny County. Focus On Renewal was established initially as an anti-poverty program serving the health needs of women and children at four McKees Rocks and Stowe Township locations. To this day, Focus On Renewal (FOR) supports the people in the community and surrounding neighborhoods through programs for all ages dedicated to developing healthy minds, bodies, and spirits. Current Executive Director, Dr. Jones' vision for Focus On Renewal is to lead the organization with care and provide services that transform lives, aiding in creating an environment where community members discover new possibilities and opportunities that consistently puts people at the center of everything FOR does. With a specific focus on the Sto-Rox Community, FOR recognizes the challenges posed by crime, violence, and poverty. FOR is committed to reducing crime rates and dismantling the racially systemic factors that contribute to violence, improving the quality of life and social determinants of health of all our residents and patrons who come through our doors. To achieve this objective, our approach centers on mitigating the repercussions of violence through education, mental health services, and proactive interventions. Our comprehensive program includes family-based supports, community activities, art and culture, as we address mental health and financial literacy. FOR emphasizes increasing family time by addressing the social determinants of health that benefit the entire community. Current programs and services include: Sto-Rox Public Library, Father Ryan Arts Center, Positive Parenting, McKees Rocks Family Center, Out of School Time Programs, Food & Nutrition Services, Community Resource Center, Sto-Rox Community Violence Reduction Initiative (CVRI), Health & Wellness Classes, Critical Needs Funds, Family Foundations Early Head Start, Sto-Rox ACTES (Achieving Change Through Transitional Employment Services), Mental Health Services, and Housing Support Services.
