About this Organization

Pittsburgh Action Against Rape (PAAR) was the first victim service agency in Allegheny County, and one of the first rape crisis centers in the nation. The agency was incorporated as a non-profit entity in 1972 and has been providing essential no-cost services to victims of sexual violence in Allegheny County for over 50 years, and is the only agency solely devoted to the issue of sexual violence. PAAR provides comprehensive services to victims of sexual violence and to their families serving approximately 3,200 children and adults of all gender identities each year. PAAR has also been identified as the county provider for serving victims of human trafficking. PAAR offers trauma and crisis counseling to adult and child victims of sexual assault, and adults who are survivors of childhood sexual abuse. PAAR also offers a host of other support including: • Group Support • Wellness Programming • 24/7 helpline with the help of volunteers • Medical Advocacy for victims in area emergency rooms to offer in person support as they go through the forensic examination • Case Management and Counseling Services • Legal Advocacy to assist victims through all stages of the legal system In addition, PAAR provides education and prevention programs to students, in middle and high schools, colleges and universities, and community groups throughout Allegheny County in an effort to eliminate sexual violence.
