During the most difficult times in a child's medical journey, the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Pittsburgh and Morgantown has been there to provide families with a comfortable place to stay close to the care they need, and access to pediatric healthcare in their own neighborhood. We know what it means to be a "light in a dark place" and we continue to be responsive to the changing needs of our families, meeting each opportunity with a unique combination of head and heart. Over the past 45 years, our Ronald McDonald Houses have created a compassionate community of support for thousands of families who have traveled for their child's care, as well as providing access to free pediatric medical care in the Greater Pittsburgh community. Despite increases in healthcare services in the Greater Pittsburgh community, difficulties with public transportation, uninsured or underinsured children, and other personal problems often impede parents' efforts to seek the proper healthcare for their children. Based on a study conducted by RMHC Global, 60% of uninsured children don't visit a physician's office during the year, and uninsured children are 25% more likely to miss school than insured children. Because of these statistics, traveling medical services is imperative. The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile of UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is operated by RMHC Pittsburgh and Morgantown, in conjunction with UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Operating year round, the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile brings medical care directly to children in Greater Pittsburgh's under-resourced neighborhoods. In 2023, the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile held over 180 clinics, serving 1,000 children! Care Mobile pediatric services include physicals, vaccinations, vision screenings, blood lead testing, hemoglobin testing, asthma treatment and care, TB testing, sick visits, and much more, ensuring healthy communities and to allow children the opportunity to flourish and grow!
