Trade Institute of Pittsburgh

About this Organization

We believe every person should have the opportunity to have careers where they can thrive, become contributing citizens within their communities, home owners, and leaders. By empowering men and women with significant barriers to employment through skill building and career opportunities, we help them launch their careers with confidence. In the last decade, we impacted over 850 lives in our region. Our graduates are starting careers at higher wages. We have over 50 active employer partners, and our flourishing alumni program offers a meaningful network for our graduates. We offer a 10-week tuition-free training program in masonry and carpentry, life skills courses, and social service supports. Students are matched with a career in a variety of trades or trade-related fields upon graduation. Along with masonry and carpentry, TIP students receive education in financial literacy, math for the trades, resume and interview coaching, and driver's license preparation. TIP's Life Coach works with each student for one hour per week. In these sessions, students set individual goals related to relationships, finances, health, etc. and are given a personalized plan to achieve those goals. TIP's Case Manager identifies all barriers to sustained employment for individual students and develops a set of goals and steps to eliminate those barriers through a holistic approach.
