Grow Pittsburgh's efforts are organized around three departments (School Gardens, Community Projects, and Farm Education & Production) and three strategies:
1) WE GROW FOOD for our community through our urban farm sites and greenhouse, providing affordable chemical-free fresh fruits and vegetables at our farm stands in low-income neighborhoods and through donations to free food distributions. With your help, we can share fresh local produce with more than 4,000 residents in low-income areas.
2) WE TEACH PEOPLE HOW TO GROW FOOD through school garden curriculum, teacher trainings, workforce development for youth, new farmer training, gardening workshops, and other resources for home, school and community gardeners, and urban farmers. You can help share hands-on garden learning and nutrition education with more than 25,000 children and adults in our community.
3) And WE BUILD AND SUPPORT GARDENS for preK-12 schools and communities throughout Allegheny County (currently a network of more than 185 gardens). With your support, we can help more than 50 gardens make improvements to grow more fresh food.
Inflation has further widened the inequities within our food systems. As grocery prices soar, it remains urgent to provide resources and knowledge to ensure that growing food is accessible and affordable, and offer fresh produce to those who need it. Our staff continues to hear from residents who wish to grow their own food and realize the benefits of gardening, including food sovereignty.
Your gift can help fill this need. Your donation today will help provide an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables where they're needed and educational resources, tools, and supplies so that people of all ages can learn to grow their own food.
