When a resident joins us at the Jewish Association on Aging (JAA), we make it our mission to learn about what makes them a unique individual, and we pride ourselves on our ability to identify and honor their interests, passions, and values. Each resident has a story full of wisdom, strength, courage, and a lifetime of experience. Respecting individuality, while creating a warm and enriching environment, is a pillar of our mission. As a result of this, we take great care to offer a wide variety of programming including health and wellness activities, educational presentations, art-making exercises, and so much more in order to make every day enjoyable and fulfilling.
The benefits of this level of personalized care are clear, but going the extra mile comes at a cost. While our residents each pay to live here, the cost of care and services provided by the Jewish Association on Aging exceeds reimbursement by over $1.4M annually. To that end, we have re-launched the Benevolent Care Fund to help address this gap and maintain our standard of care without needing to increase costs. Ensuring all seniors in our community receive undeniably important services when they need it most is what we are called to do and what we have been doing for over 116 years.
WHO WE ARE
JAA has a rich history that began by responding to the unique needs of aging seniors and their families. We have since evolved into one of the premier healthcare networks in the greater Pittsburgh area, providing comprehensive services designed to keep seniors active, safe, independent and connected to the community.
The JAA is proud to have two locations: the main campus on Browns Hill Road and The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Terrace personal care community in Squirrel Hill. On the JAA's main campus there are two residences, AHAVA Memory Care Center of Excellence and The New Riverview Apartments, our Anathan Adult Day Memory Care Services, and the administrative offices for JAA Home Health Services, Sivitz Hospice & Palliative Care, and Mollie's Meals Home Delivery Service. In Squirrel Hill, Weinberg Terrace offers personal care apartment-style living at a separate community in the heart of the business district. Outpatient physical therapy managed by JAA, PT@JCC, is offered near Weinberg Terrace at the Jewish Community Center. JAA is also a partner of AgeWell Pittsburgh, a collaboration between the JAA, the Jewish Community Center, and Jewish Family and Community Services that helps seniors and their caregivers maintain a healthy and independent lifestyle. Both of JAA's memory care offerings - AHAVA and Anathan Adult Day - are provided under the auspices of the Hearthstone Institute at Abe's Garden and its "I'm Still Here" training, proving that the years following a diagnosis can be filled with positive, fulfilling experiences that enable people with memory loss to live engaged and purposeful lives.
Innovation, the use of cutting-edge technology, and a dedication to honoring tradition keep JAA at the forefront of quality senior care in the heart of the urban core of Pittsburgh.
