The Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh is one of the largest social service, recreational and educational organizations in the region. For more than 129 years, the JCC has enriched our community by creating an environment rooted in Jewish values that strengthens the physical, intellectual and spiritual well-being of individuals and families. Comprehensive programming includes childcare and preschool, after-school and school's-out programs, day and overnight camping, senior adult activities, fitness and wellness programs, social justice and civic engagement, special needs services, arts and cultural activities and scores of programs for all ages and interests. The JCC houses state-of-the-art fitness and wellness facilities, heated indoor swimming pools and an Olympic-size outdoor pool for summer use, gymnasiums, outdoor playgrounds, auditoriums, dance studios, classrooms and meeting areas.
Since our founding, the JCC's focus has been on providing a full range of programs and services to children and their families. From infants who are six weeks old to older teens, the JCC offers childcare, preschool education, educational and socialization opportunities for children and their parent or caregiver, after-school care, nearly twenty distinct day and overnight camp programs, counselor training, and employment opportunities. For older teens from throughout the Pittsburgh region, the JCC is frequently their entry point to the workforce with hundreds employed as counselors during the school year and summer months. Notably, nearly 1 in 3 families with children enrolled in programming receive scholarship assistance from the JCC. The JCC awards over $2.5 million in financial assistance annually to those in need so that they can take advantage of JCC's high-quality services.
So far in 2024, the JCC has over 238 children enrolled in Early Childhood programs, 119 children are enrolled in our after-school clubhouse program and 838 children enrolled in our summer day camp. Over 719 children are enrolled in overnight camp. Nearly 7,000 seniors engage in on-going "aging well" activities to maintain their independence, food security, better health, and quality of life. We have engaged over 600 teens and they are actively participating in JCC programming. The JCC continues to advance inclusion efforts in terms of serving and supporting children and young adults with individual disabilities.
