North Hills Community Outreach Inc. (NHCO)

About this Organization

North Hills Community Outreach (NHCO), a community-based organization that has been addressing the needs of people in crisis, hardship and poverty for the past 37 years. All services are free of charge to low-income individuals and families and focus on providing basic needs, moving households towards financial stability and assisting older adults in the region. Last year, NHCO provided more than 23,000 services to over 4,000 families and individuals in our region.

Services include:

- Sharing Projects: NHCO holds various collections annually and distributes these items to those we serve.

- Food Pantry: NHCO operates three food pantries in Northern Allegheny County, including Allison Park, Millvale and Avalon.

- Services For Seniors: A variety of services that help older adults in our community live healthy and safe with dignity at home.

- Transportation Assistance: The Transportation Assistance Program helps individuals stabilize transportation to support employment, job search, or education and vocational training.

- Utility Assistance: Assistance can prevent termination notice or restore services that have been shut off.

- Education Assistance: Education Assistance funds are available for nontraditional students pursuing post-secondary education in a college, associates program or trade school.

- Ask The Attorney - Free 30-minute legal consultants for low-income individuals on noncriminal matters such as divorce, child custody, bankruptcy, rent disputes, insurance, etc.

- Pathways Program: Service Coordinators work with individuals to create pathways to self-sufficiency and empowerment through services and support.

- Free Tax Prep: Free seasonal tax preparation is available for low income families.
