Providence Connections

About this Organization

Providence Connections strengthens families and enriches lives through a family-centered approach of comprehensive education and developmental opportunities for parents and children. Last year, Providence Connections provided services for more than 400 children and their families.

Providence Connections upholds an unwavering commitment to growing and adapting our center to meet the ever-changing and emerging needs of children and families in the Northside of Pittsburgh. Within these neighborhoods, the poverty rate is, on average, 25.4 %. In these same neighborhoods, more than 2,400 children under age 18 are living below the poverty level, and many of them are in the area's more than 2,000 female-headed households.

In an effort to help these families overcome the many challenges they face, Providence Family Support Center provides a continuum of care for children from 6 weeks to 11 years of age in the form of childcare, a curriculum-based early childhood education program, a summer day camp, and programs for both before and after-school. Providence Family Support Center is licensed by the Department of Public Welfare and accredited as a Keystone STARS 4 facility. Equitable access to high-quality, early childhood education is a top priority and Providence Connections works tirelessly to find tuition options that fit family budgets such as sliding scales, scholarships, income-based reimbursements, and more. Currently, almost 80% of families enrolled in programs receive state or center-subsided tuition due to family income.

Providence Connections also offers a plethora of programs designed to help parents become self-sufficient, obtain and retain employment, and develop positive parenting skills that often were not modeled in their own childhood homes, through Adult Enrichment classes. These classes give adults residing on Pittsburgh's Northside the opportunity to attain or improve upon a variety of skills that help make life easier and more manageable. Providence Connections also employs Family Development Specialists who are responsible for implementing in-home visits.
