Planned Parenthood of Western Pennsylvania

About this Organization

Planned Parenthood of Western Pennsylvania is dedicated to providing comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care, education, and advocacy throughout our region. Our mission is rooted in the belief that everyone deserves access to quality health care and the freedom to make informed decisions about their bodies and futures.

Health Care

Planned Parenthood of Western Pennsylvania (PPWP) unequivocally believes in and stands by all individuals' right to self determination and bodily autonomy. Every day, patients look to us to provide high-quality, non-judgmental, and accessible health care services, including STI testing & treatment, birth control, emergency contraception, life-saving cancer screenings, PrEP, gender-affirming hormone therapy, pregnancy testing, gynecological care, family planning, abortion care, and much more!

PPWP provides health care services at six clinic locations: Bridgeville, downtown Pittsburgh (2), Greensburg, Johnstown, and Moon Township.

We were able to expand access this year by growing our family planning telemedicine services, which has been a great remote option for patients with transportation barriers to care. These services are available to all-regardless of income level or insurance status. During the fiscal year 2023-2024, PPWP provided over 11,500 services to nearly 8,000 patients.

As a provider of sexual and reproductive health care, we will never stop working to provide our patients with the care they need, and our doors will always remain open to the communities we serve.

Education

Planned Parenthood of Western Pennsylvania's (PPWP) Education programs have served as a source of accurate and unbiased comprehensive sex education (CSE) for students and community members in the region for over 31 years. We seek to equip youth and community members with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values that enable them to make healthy, safe, and fulfilling choices about their body.

In the 2022 fiscal year, PPWP's Education Department provided comprehensive sex education to more than 10,000 young people and parents through school programs, community groups, health fairs, and community outreach efforts. Additionally, Peer Education staff taught over 2,000 classes to 1,500 students, in 19 education sites throughout Allegheny, Westmoreland, and Cambria Counties, helping students develop the knowledge and skills to avoid sexual risk behaviors, and promote those same norms amongst their peers.

Community

We have proudly engaged in numerous community partnerships and events to enhance our outreach over the last year. Highlights include our special Bracket Night event at Arcade Comedy Theater, launching the PPWP Care Always There HIV/AIDS Testing & Survivorship program, and events hosted at Trace Brewing, Threadbare Cider House, and QMNTY Center. We've also developed impactful content in partnership with Take-A-Stand, Pittsburgh CityPaper, and Pennsylvania Capital-Star.

Our partnerships with regional organizations like Sibyls Shrine, East End Food Co-Op, City Theatre, and many others have been instrumental in fostering mutual community support. Our CEO's recognition as a "Person of the Year" in health care, and being named to Pennsylvania City & State's 40 Under 40, reflects the impact and skill of our leadership. This year's sold-out "Bans Off Our Bodies Bash" Gala (featuring PPFA President & CEO Alexis McGill Johnson and PA Lt. Governor Austin Davis) was another major milestone in demonstrating the public support of reproductive health care advocacy.

PPWP remains dedicated to partnering with community organizations to serve the wellness of our patients' whole selves, providing top quality health care, comprehensive advocacy support, and lending the strength of our brand and team to uplifting all of our partners.
