About this Organization

Project Destiny, Inc., a Pittsburgh non-profit based on the Northside of Pittsburgh. Project Destiny, Inc. was founded in 2004 by Rev. Dr. Brenda J. Gregg, an African American woman, to serve the at-risk youth and families in the predominantly African American communities in the 18 communities that make up the Northside of Pittsburgh. Project Destiny now serves Northside residents from age six-weeks until the end of life through our various programs.

We have two Early Learning Centers, located on Perrysville Avenue and at CCAC, that enroll children from six weeks until they are ready for kindergarten. Camp Destiny, our seven-week summer camp, provides children from age six (6) until age fourteen (14) with a full-time combination of learning, recreation and field trips during the summer months. There is no cost to the families of our children to participate in summer camp. Project Destiny also holds two after-school programs, one in Brighton Heights and one in Manchester, that provide a safe place for children to come after school, work on their homework, socialize with their peers, and receive a hot meal. We serve more than 150 children a year in our programs.

Our Thrive 18 program focuses on providing resources based on eighteen (18) social determinants of health to those in need of assistance. Thrive matches Northside residents with everything from food assistance to employment opportunities, to utility and rental assistance, all while aiming to improve overall health outcomes. Since its inception, Thrive 18 has reached over 7,000 Northside households, enrolling more than 2,200 people in our programs. Finally, our Youth and Family Engagement program seeks to keep Northside youth out of the CYF system by addressing family conflict, truancy, discipline issues, and academic deficits. We regularly receive referrals from Pittsburgh Public Schools, Allegheny County, as well as from our School Resource Officers and Cultural Consultants.

Project Destiny is passionate about engaging Northside youth of all ages to provide the with unique and eye-opening experiences. Through meeting the diverse needs of these children and families, we seek to reduce incidences of poverty and violence, and to preserve the family unit.
